Man Headbutts NYC EMT, Dies at Hospital

FDNY Ambulance on scene to provide medical assistance to victims.

BRONX, NY – A 49-year-old male suspect died in police custody following an altercation with an emergency medical technician (EMT) on Friday. The incident occurred at 595 Prospect Avenue.

Police were initially called to assist EMS with an aided case involving a head injury at the location. The injured individual, later identified as the suspect, had been transported to NYC Health and Hospitals/Lincoln at 234 East 149 Street before police arrival.

At the hospital, authorities learned that the suspect had assaulted a 33-year-old male EMT by striking him in the head with his own head at the original scene.

The suspect was taken into police custody at the hospital without resistance and was receiving medical treatment when he was pronounced deceased. The circumstances of his death are under investigation by the NYPD’s Force Investigation Division.

The identity of the deceased is not released yet, pending family notification. The condition of the EMT assaulted in the incident is not immediately known.
