Fatal Collision in Laurel Involving Ambulance Under Investigation

LAUREL, MD – Howard County Police are currently investigating a fatal collision that occurred late on December 3 in Laurel, resulting in the death of one individual.

At about 10:57 p.m., a 2011 Hyundai Sonata, driven by 36-year-old Ricardo Perez of Laurel, was traveling south on Washington Boulevard. The vehicle collided with a stationary Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services (HCDFRS) ambulance, which was in the right turn lane for Country Meadows Lane with its rear yellow warning lights activated. Perez, the sole occupant of the Hyundai, was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was pronounced deceased. The two HCDFRS personnel in the ambulance sustained minor injuries and were treated at Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center before being released.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
