Elderly Man Arrested for High-End Liquor Thefts

BROWARD COUNTY, FL — Mervin Hadden, a 76-year-old resident of North Broward County, was apprehended by Martin County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) Detectives for a series of high-value liquor thefts. Following an investigation into break-ins at local liquor stores, Hadden was identified through surveillance footage.

Police said he stole bottles worth $2,500 each.

Detectives discovered a crowbar and a mask left behind at a Martin County liquor store, leading to an identification of Hadden. The arrest came after MCSO detectives obtained a warrant, culminating in Hadden’s capture in Broward County. In his vehicle, authorities found additional liquor bottles, suggesting ongoing thefts.

Hadden now faces charges related to the burglaries and is held on a $20,000 bond. This arrest highlights the MCSO’s commitment to solving property crimes, even those involving unusual suspects and high-value items.
