NEW YORK, NY — Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. announced today the indictment of Yehia Amin, 28, for a hate crime assault against a 23-year-old Israeli tourist in Times Square. Amin faces charges including First and Third Degree Stalking as a Hate Crime, Third Degree Assault as a Hate Crime, and Aggravated Harassment in the Second Degree.

On the evening of October 18, the victim, along with friends, all wearing kippahs, encountered Amin in Times Square. Amin followed the group, playing music through a Bluetooth speaker and making antisemitic remarks. He expressed support for Hamas and voiced intentions to harm Jews.

The situation escalated when Amin punched the victim in the head, causing injury. He fled but was apprehended by police after a brief chase. During his arrest, Amin continued to express hateful sentiments.

The prosecution is led by Assistant D.A. Edward Smith, with assistance from the Hate Crimes Unit. D.A. Bragg emphasized Manhattan’s intolerance for hate-driven violence and pledged continued efforts to ensure safety for all.

Victims or witnesses of hate crimes are urged to contact the Manhattan D.A.’s office. The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force and Patrol Borough Manhattan South, particularly Detective Desmond Brown and Officer Michael Walsh, were acknowledged for their contributions to the case.

Yehia Amin resides in Queens, NY. His indictment marks a firm stance against hate crimes in New York City.
