Murder Suspect Arrested in Suitland Shooting

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, MD – Detectives from the Prince George’s County Police Homicide Unit have charged Christopher Cross, 46, of Washington, D.C., in connection with a fatal shooting in Suitland in September.

The victim, 48-year-old Brian Akinfe of Temple Hills, was shot near Branch Avenue and St. Barnabas Road on Saturday, at approximately 7:40 pm.

Akinfe, found unresponsive near his motorcycle, was initially treated for crash-related injuries before gunshot wounds were discovered. He succumbed to his injuries on September 12. The investigation revealed that Cross and Akinfe, who were known to each other, had an ongoing dispute.

Cross faces charges of first and second-degree murder, among others, and is currently in custody in Washington, D.C., awaiting extradition to Prince George’s County.
