SPOTSYLVANIA, VA – A Spotsylvania Sheriff’s deputy searching for an alleged drunk driver ended up colliding head-on with the suspect’s vehicle. The incident occurred near the Orange County line, approximately 65 miles southwest of Washington, D.C.

Senior Deputy Tibor Kreiter was on duty in the area of West Catharpin Road and Dulin Lane in Orange County when the crash happened at 3:00 PM. The suspect, identified as 57-year-old John Anthony Fields of Spotsylvania, veered into the deputy’s lane, resulting in a direct collision.

Dashcam footage from Kreiter’s vehicle captured the harrowing moment when Fields, driving a red truck, crossed the double yellow line and collided with the deputy’s SUV. Despite Kreiter’s efforts to swerve and avoid the crash, the vehicles collided, causing significant damage and debris. Images from the scene show the deputy’s vehicle with at least one wheel knocked off.

Following the crash, Fields was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, and failure to drive on the right side of the highway.
