PARMA, OH – In a remarkable turn of events, Parma Municipal Court Judge Timothy P. Gilligan handed down an unusual sentence to Rosemary Hayne, 39, following an assault incident at a Chipotle restaurant. Captured on video hurling a burrito bowl at an employee, Hayne faced a potential 180-day jail term, but the judge offered an alternative aimed at empathy and understanding.

During the Nov. 28 hearing, Judge Gilligan proposed a deal to Hayne: work 20 hours a week for two months in a fast-food restaurant to reduce her jail time by 60 days.

This unique sentence is intended to allow Hayne to experience the challenges faced by service industry workers. Hayne, after a pause, accepted the offer, choosing to “walk in her shoes” instead of serving the full jail term.

The incident, which took place in September, involved Hayne verbally abusing Chipotle worker Emily Russell over her meal’s preparation before throwing the food at her. The confrontation, partly obscured in the cellphone footage, escalated quickly, ending with Hayne storming out of the restaurant.
