ADELPHI, MARYLAND — Maryland State Police are requesting public assistance in identifying a man who fled the scene of a traffic crash in Montgomery County earlier today.

The man, described as an African American in his early thirties with an afro hairstyle, was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and jumping over a fence from the inner loop of I-495 into a residential neighborhood.

The incident began shortly after 1:30 PM, when troopers from the College Park Barrack were called to assist Montgomery County Police with a crash on the ramp from Route 650 to the inner loop of I-495. The driver of a blue 2009 Honda Accord with Maryland tags, involved in the crash, fled on foot and was last reported walking along I-495 in Prince George’s County. He is believed to be potentially armed.

A Maryland State Trooper located the man near Riggs Road along I-495, but the man jumped over a fence into a neighborhood around the 9000 block of Muskogee Place in Adelphi. A perimeter was established, and additional resources, including Maryland State Police Aviation and K9 Units from Prince George’s and Montgomery County police departments, were deployed for the search.
