Newark Police Seek Two Individuals for Questioning in Burglary Case

NEWARK, NJ — The Newark Department of Public Safety is seeking the public’s assistance in locating Afrika Islam, 27, of Newark, and Alaa Ibeh-Covington, 24, of Montclair, for questioning related to a burglary. The incident occurred between December 10 and December 12, 2023, at Joseph P. Bradley Court, a Newark Housing Authority apartment complex.

The victim reported an argument with Ibeh-Covington during a phone call while at her Bradley Court apartment. Following the argument, and after leaving her apartment around 8 PM on December 10, the victim returned at approximately 4 AM on December 12 to find her property vandalized and items stolen. The damaged and stolen items include a ripped couch, two televisions, an air conditioner, a shattered mirror, a MacBook computer, and a PlayStation 5.

Ibeh-Covington is described as 5’8” tall, weighing 160 pounds, with brown eyes, black hair, and a light/medium complexion. Islam is 5’7” tall, weighs 130 pounds, and has brown eyes, black hair, and a light/medium complexion. The two are known to be friends. Police urge anyone with information to come forward to aid in the investigation.
