Newark Police Searching For Woman For Carjacking Questioning

NEWARK, NJ – Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé is seeking the public’s assistance in locating Yvonne Barnes, 63, for questioning related to a carjacking incident on December 10, 2023.

The incident occurred around 10:30 PM after a Lyft driver picked up two male passengers on the 40 block of Eckert Avenue. During the ride to the 200 block of 18th Avenue, a dispute erupted between the driver and passengers over the volume of the music. Upon reaching the 600 block of Bergen Street, near Clinton Avenue, the driver requested the passengers to exit the vehicle, registered with New Jersey plate Z99MWW.

Following the driver’s request, the two male suspects assaulted him. The first suspect, described as a 5’10” Black male wearing a red jacket and blue jeans, with braided hair, repeatedly punched the victim in the face, knocking him to the ground. The second suspect, a 5’8″ Black male wearing a yellow traffic vest, blue jeans, a dark hat, and long braided hair, also attacked the victim before stealing the vehicle and driving north on Bergen Street.
