Tennessee Police Chief Suffers Fatal Heart Attack While Removing Beaver Dam

SAMBURG, TN – Chief of Police Christopher Cummings of the Samburg Police Department passed away following a heart attack.

The incident occurred after he assisted in dismantling a beaver dam causing road obstructions and flooding. Chief Cummings, an Iraq War veteran with service in the United States Army and Tennessee National Guard, felt unwell after the physically demanding task and returned to the station.

He was later found unresponsive by fellow officers. Despite resuscitation efforts, he was pronounced deceased.

Chief Cummings had a distinguished career, serving two years with the Samburg Police Department, three years with the Obion Sheriff’s Office, and 24 years with the Union City Police Department.
