East Quogue Woman Indicted for Multiple Arson Attempts and Attempted Robbery

SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y. — Amanda Burnside, a 41-year-old resident of East Quogue, faces charges including Arson in the Second Degree and Attempted Robbery. Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced her indictment related to multiple arson attempts in Hampton Bays in November.

On November 12, Burnside was apprehended by the Southampton Police Department after allegedly trying to set fire to three Hampton Bays homes.

The following day, she faced arraignment in Southampton Town Justice Court on several charges, including one count of Arson in the Second Degree and two counts of Attempted Arson in the Second Degree. Despite the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office’s request for bail, she was released without it.

Just two hours after her release, Burnside purportedly attempted a robbery at a Dollar Tree store in Hampton Bays. Police intervened and arrested her at the scene. On November 30, she faced further arraignment before Acting Supreme Court Justice Steven A. Pilewski for additional charges, including Attempted Robbery.

This time, Justice Pilewski set the bail at $500,000 cash, $1 million bond, or $1.5 million partially secured bond. As of Tuesday, she faces an additional arraignment and a court-ordered mental examination.
