Suspect Arrested in Overnight Shooting in Schenectady

SCHENECTADY, NY – The Schenectady Police Department has identified the victim of the December 19 shooting on Lincoln Avenue at Steuben Street as 21-year-old Usman Pirzada of Schenectady, NY. Pirzada was pronounced deceased early this morning at Albany Medical Center, leading authorities to investigate the incident as a homicide.

The initial response by Schenectady Police occurred on December 19 at approximately 8:49 P.M., following reports of a shooting in the Lincoln Avenue and Steuben Street area. Upon arrival, officers found Pirzada with a gunshot wound. Several shell casings were discovered at the scene. Pirzada was immediately transported to Albany Medical Center, where his condition was initially unknown.

The Schenectady Police Department’s Detective Division and Evidence Technician Unit are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident. The investigation remains active and ongoing, with further details to be released as they become available.
