NEWARK, N.J. – Siobhan Chandler, a 21-year-old woman from Essex County, New Jersey, has confessed to participating in a series of robberies and shootings in Jersey City. U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced Chandler’s guilty plea in federal court, which addresses multiple charges including conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robbery, and using and carrying a firearm in relation to a crime of violence.
During a court hearing, details emerged about the events of November 14,. Chandler, along with co-conspirator Rodney Williams, whose charges are still accusations pending trial, initiated their crime spree by robbing a gas station. Williams brandished a firearm at the attendant, demanding money, while Chandler assisted in the act.
Their spree continued as they targeted another store, where Williams once again used his firearm to intimidate a clerk into handing over money. The pair then proceeded to a nearby restaurant, where a cashier was shot in the chest by Williams during the robbery.
The charges against Chandler carry severe penalties. The Hobbs Act robbery charges could lead to a maximum of 20 years in prison, and the conspiracy to use and carry a firearm in relation to a crime of violence charge also carries a maximum of 20 years. More critically, the charge of using and carrying a firearm in relation to a crime of violence comes with a minimum of 10 years and could extend to a life sentence. Each count also entails a maximum fine of $250,000. Chandler’s sentencing is scheduled for April 17, 2024.
