Man Found Shot Inside Vehicle on Christmas Eve

UTICA, NY – Utica Police and Fire units responded to a shooting at the intersection of Burrstone Rd and Sunset Ave, where a gunshot victim was found inside a vehicle.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:20 PM on December 24. On arrival, emergency responders learned that the driver had sustained a gunshot wound to the upper abdomen. The victim was quickly transported to Wynn Hospital, where it was determined that the injuries were not life-threatening.

Investigations revealed that the shooting occurred on the 1400 block of Sunset Ave. The vehicle, traveling southbound on Sunset Ave, was targeted by an unidentified suspect on foot, who fired multiple rounds at it. After being hit, the driver managed to reach Burrstone Rd, where 911 was alerted.

Police officers, upon examining the scene on Sunset Ave, found several spent shell casings. Efforts are ongoing to canvas the area for witnesses and video surveillance footage to aid in the investigation.
