Attempted Residential Burglary Thwarted by Alert Neighbor in Cranford

CRANFORD, NJ – A reported attempted residential burglary on Crane Parkway was disrupted on Tuesday, December 26, at approximately 6:43 p.m. The Cranford Police Department responded swiftly to the scene following a report from an alert neighbor who observed multiple individuals fleeing from the rear yard of a residence.

The attempted burglary was unsuccessful, and it is believed that the presence of barking dogs in the home startled the suspects, prompting their rapid departure. Surveillance footage from the residence corroborated the neighbor’s account, showing the suspects attempting to open the front door of the house.

At the time of the incident, two BMW vehicles were parked on the property. Officers noted a dark SUV fleeing the area shortly after the attempted burglary. This observation aligns with a recent increase in BMW thefts reported across Union County.

The Cranford Police Department is collaborating with neighboring police agencies to address the spike in high-end vehicle thefts. Residents are urged to remain vigilant, ensuring their vehicles and homes are securely locked, especially during overnight hours. The importance of removing keyfobs from vehicles when parked and maintaining operational security cameras is emphasized.
