Cumberland Man Threatened to Kill Woman With Knife Held Against Her Neck

CUMBERLAND, MD — On December 26, 2023, the Cumberland Police Department arrested James Robert Michael Langway, 35, of Cumberland, Maryland, on multiple assault charges. The arrest followed an incident where Langway reportedly threatened a woman with a knife.

The situation escalated when Langway allegedly told the female victim that he intended to kill her, brandishing a large knife. The victim’s husband witnessed the threat and armed himself with a baseball bat from his truck. Langway fled the scene but was swiftly apprehended by Cumberland Police officers. Upon his arrest, officers found the large knife in Langway’s jacket pocket.

Langway was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and disorderly conduct. Following his arrest and charge service, he was transported to the Allegany County Detention Center, where he awaited a bond hearing.

This incident highlights the quick response and effective action taken by the Cumberland Police Department in ensuring public safety and apprehending individuals who pose a threat to the community.
