Atlantic City Police Arrest Man After Tossing Handgun During Chase

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – The Atlantic City Police Department apprehended a man following a foot pursuit after he discarded a handgun. The incident occurred on December 28 at 9:05 PM in the 400 block of Indiana Avenue.

Patrol officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert indicating gunshots in the area. Upon arrival, they found evidence of gunfire and gathered descriptions of two men seen leaving in a vehicle. Officers Moustafa Maarouf and Ivaylo Penchev later spotted a vehicle matching the description in the 2100 block of Sheridan Avenue and observed two men standing outside who matched the suspect descriptions.

When the officers approached the men, Jibril Mitchell fled, leading Officer Penchev on a chase during which Mitchell discarded a handgun. He was eventually apprehended, while Officer Maarouf detained the second man for questioning. The second individual was later released pending further investigation.
