First Homicide of 2024 Recorded in North Philadelphia

NORTH PHILADELPHIA, PA – Early Tuesday, a 35-year-old man was fatally shot in North Philadelphia, marking the city’s first homicide of 2024. The incident occurred at 8:20 AM along the 1200 block of West Harold Street.

The victim, found lying on the roadway, had suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was rushed to Temple University Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries at approximately 8:46 AM.

As of now, no suspects have been apprehended, and no weapons have been recovered from the scene.

Police statistics indicate a 20% reduction in homicides in 2023 compared to the previous year.

However, the city recorded over 400 homicides in 2023, maintaining a level near the highest in recent history.
