Handgun Seized After Traffic Stop and Pursuit in Syracuse

SYRACUSE, NY – In the early hours of Tuesday, Syracuse Officers Petrie and Forrester initiated a traffic stop after observing a Volvo with a malfunctioning headlight on West Onondaga Street.

The vehicle, speeding and making abrupt turns, eventually stopped on the 700 block of West Onondaga Street, where the driver and a passenger fled on foot.

Despite losing sight of the suspects, the officers discovered a loaded Sarsilmaz B6 nine-millimeter handgun in a dumpster in the area where the suspects fled.

The Town of Geddes Police Department later detained a suspect matching the description, identified as 21-year-old Antwan Smith Jr.

Smith faces charges for Criminal Possession of a Weapon and a Firearm.
