$25,000 Reward Offered in Newark Imam’s Fatal Shooting Investigation

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — The Essex County Sheriff’s Crime Stoppers Program is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the fatal shooting of Imam Hassan Sharif in Newark.

On January 3, around 6:15 A.M., Imam Sharif was shot multiple times outside the Masjid Muhammad-Newark Mosque, located at the intersection of South Orange Avenue and Camden Street. Authorities currently do not believe the shooting was motivated by bias or domestic terrorism.

The investigation remains active with no arrests made so far. The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office urges anyone with information to contact their tips line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC or 1-877-847-7432.
