Fatal Shooting in West Harlem: 39-Year-Old Man Identified

NEW YORK, NY – A 39-year-old man was found shot and later pronounced dead in West Harlem, as reported by the NYPD. The incident occurred on Sunday, January 7, 2024.

At around 6:20 PM, police responded to a call reporting an unconscious and unresponsive male at 619 West 135th Street, within the 30th Precinct. Upon arrival, officers found Omar Espinal, a resident of 740 W. 187 Street #2K, with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was seated in the front driver’s seat of a parked vehicle.

Espinal was rushed to Mount Sinai Morningside by EMS, where he was pronounced deceased. The family of the victim has been notified. No arrests have been made thus far, and the NYPD’s investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
