Philadelphia Child Injured in Accidental Shooting

PHILADELPHIA, PA – A 5-year-old boy is recovering from gunshot wounds in an incident in Kensington, Philadelphia.

Police report the child was shot twice in the right leg inside his home on Sunday. Initially rushed to the hospital by his mother, the boy is now in stable condition.

Investigations indicate the child accidentally shot himself with an unattended firearm.

The gun, registered to Rhamique Topping, the child’s godparent, was recovered by officials. Topping faces charges including Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

The District Attorney’s office has also charged the mother with multiple offenses, including Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Obstructing Justice, with her arrest pending.
