Prison Sentence Announced in Check Fraud Scheme Involving Ironworkers Local 417

ORANGE COUNTY, NY – District Attorney David M. Hoovler has announced the sentencing of Anthony Dubuisson, a 27-year-old resident of Newburgh.

The sentencing, which took place in Orange County Court on Monday, imposes a prison term of three and one third to ten years. Dubuisson was convicted in connection with a widespread fraud scheme that resulted in significant financial losses to local businesses.

From March 2021 through April 2022, Dubuisson and other defendants engaged in a scheme involving the depositing of altered and/or fraudulent checks.

These checks belonged to Ironworkers Local 417 and other area businesses and individuals. The scheme involved creating fake business accounts for depositing these checks, with withdrawals of cash being made from multiple banks. The total loss attributed to the scheme is over $250,000, with more than $190,000 from Ironworkers Local 417 alone.

The investigation leading to these convictions was spearheaded by the Town of Newburgh Police Department, with assistance from the Town of New Windsor Police Department, Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, Orange County District Attorney’s Office Investigators, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, and the NYS Department of Financial Services.
