Downtown Toms River Heavily Flooded After Passing Storm

TOMS RIVER, NJ – Coastal areas of Toms River and the barrier island experienced moderate flooding after an overnight storm dumped nearly two-and-a-half inches of rain across the township.

Downtown Toms River was also flooded along the waterfront as water crested above the bulkhead in Huddy Park and along the downtown waterfront. The municipal parking lot at Irons Street and Washington Street intersection was also several inches underwater, forcing the Toms River Police Department to close Irons Street heading toward Route 166 via Herflicker.

That site is the proposed location for a large two-tower apartment building approved under the administration of former Mayor Maurice Hill.
