PHILADELPHIA, PA — The family of Eric Harrison, a security guard fatally stabbed at a Macy’s store in Philadelphia, announced plans on Jan. 9 to file a lawsuit against Macy’s and the building’s owners.
Their attorneys made the announcement during a press conference.
Eric Harrison, 27, was killed on Dec. 4 at the downtown Philadelphia Macy’s. Tyrone Garcell Tunnell, 30, faces charges for Harrison’s murder. According to police, security initially confronted Tunnell for attempting to steal hats. Although Tunnell was allowed to leave after the merchandise was recovered, he allegedly returned later and attacked Harrison, leading to his death. Another security guard was injured but survived.
Attorneys Eric G. Zajac and Evan Padilla revealed the legal action against Macy’s and the building owners. They have requested that Macy’s provide various documents, including internal investigations, employee handbooks, crime statistics, and security assessments. The specifics of the lawsuit were not disclosed at the press conference.
