Fruit Stand Robbery Suspect Checks Into Hospital With Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wounds

NEW HAVEN, CT — Manuel Otero, a 51-year-old resident of East Haven, faces multiple charges following a robbery incident in New Haven.

Otero is charged with first-degree robbery and other related crimes.

At around 12:35 a.m. on Tuesday, Otero allegedly robbed Chico’s Fruit and Vegetables on Ferry Street.

Shortly after, gunshots were heard. Otero later admitted himself to Yale New Haven Hospital with a gunshot wound. Police have confirmed his condition as stable and believe the wound was self-inflicted.

Further details regarding the incident are under investigation by the New Haven Police Department.
