MINEOLA, N.Y. – Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly announced the sentencing of Michael Owen, a 30-year-old from St. James, to 25 years to life in prison.
Owen was convicted of Murder in the Second Degree for the January 2020 killing of his estranged wife, Kelly Owen.
The conviction followed a trial that concluded on July 28, 2023, presided over by Judge Robert McDonald.
On January 15, 2020, Kelly Owen, a 27-year-old nursing student and mother, was found deceased in her Farmingdale apartment. She had been strangled with a rope-like object and was in the early stages of pregnancy at the time.
Video evidence showed Michael Owen’s vehicle near the victim’s residence on the morning of the murder. Owen had parked his vehicle two blocks away and disabled his phone to avoid detection.
