Arrest Made in 2021 Jersey City Homicide Case

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ – Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced the arrest of Tybear Miles, 28, in connection with the 2021 shooting death of Ahmad McPherson in Jersey City. The arrest took place in Spartanburg, South Carolina, on Thursday.

Miles, originally from Jersey City, faces charges including murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.

The Spartanburg Police Department, in coordination with the United States Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, facilitated the arrest.

The incident dates back to June 5, 2021, when Jersey City Police responded to reports of gunshots on Stegman Street and Martin Luther King Drive at around 10:05 p.m. They discovered McPherson, 22, with gunshot wounds to the torso, who was later pronounced dead at Jersey City Medical Center.

Miles is currently detained at the Spartanburg County Detention Center, awaiting extradition to New Jersey.
