88-Year-Old Woman Crashes Into Liquor Store Window

WHITING, NJ – An accident occurred on Thursday, at approximately 1:32 pm in Manchester Township, when a vehicle crashed into the front of a building at Whiting Commons.

Officers from the Manchester Township Police Department were dispatched to 400 Lacey Road, where they found a black 2020 Hyundai Tucson with extensive damage.

The investigation revealed that the vehicle, driven by 88-year-old Mary McGowan of Whiting, NJ, had accelerated through a parking aisle, mounted a curb, and collided with the building housing H&R Block and Wine World.

McGowan, who was wearing a seatbelt, suffered multiple injuries and was transported to Community Medical Center. Emergency services, including EMTs and firefighters, responded to the scene.

The crash, primarily attributed to driver error, is under investigation by Patrolman Michael O’Hara of the Traffic Safety Unit.
