Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Introduces New K-9 Team Member, ‘Atlas’

CALVERY COUNTY, MD – The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office celebrates the addition of a new K-9 team to their ranks. DFC Sean Hendrickson and his canine partner, ‘Atlas’, have successfully completed a rigorous 26-week training program and are now ready for active duty.

Atlas, named in honor of an NYPD ESU K-9 who was the first police dog at the World Trade Center during the 9/11 attacks, represents a significant asset to the Sheriff’s Office. The name holds personal significance for DFC Hendrickson, as Atlas’s handler was a close associate of his.

Trained in various critical skills, including patrol, narcotics detection, locating missing persons, building searches, apprehending criminals, evidence recovery, crowd control, and handler protection, Atlas is set to play a crucial role in enhancing public safety in Calvert County. The Sheriff’s Office recognizes the indispensable contributions of K-9 units in law enforcement and public service.
