Michigan State Trooper Fatally Struck During DUI Investigation on I-75

GETTYSBURG BOROUGH, PA – An incident occurred on northbound I-75 near Birch Run at approximately 7:10 pm, involving Michigan State Trooper Joel Popp.

While assisting with a DUI investigation, Trooper Popp was fatally struck by a vehicle. He was outside his patrol car when the incident happened, involving him and two patrol vehicles.

Trooper Popp was immediately transported to Hurley Medical Center, where, despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.

Having dedicated four years of service to the Michigan State Police, Trooper Popp was a respected member of the Tri-City Post. He leaves behind a wife and daughter, who mourn his untimely loss.

The Michigan State Police are conducting a thorough investigation into this incident. They ask anyone who might have witnessed the event or have relevant information to come forward.
