Newark, NJ – The Newark Department of Public Safety is appealing to the public for assistance in identifying a suspect involved in a recent package theft. The incident took place on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, on Mead Street near Silver Street.

According to Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé, the theft occurred shortly after a package was delivered to a residence in the area. The homeowner discovered the package missing upon attempting retrieval. Surveillance video captured at around 4:48 p.m. that day shows a Black male suspect approaching the property, taking the package, and then walking northbound towards Silver Street.

The suspect is described as wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, black pants, gray sneakers, and was seen carrying a gray book bag on his back. The Newark Police Department is eager to identify and locate the individual responsible for this crime.

Director Fragé is urging anyone with information about the suspect’s identity to contact the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).
