NYPD Detective Arrested for Harassment and Assault


New York, NY – An off-duty New York City Police Department detective was arrested and charged early Tuesday morning within the jurisdiction of the 104th Precinct. The individual identified as Tafara Layne, a 43-year-old female member of the NYPD, faces charges of assault and harassment. The arrest occurred at approximately 3:50 a.m. Further details regarding the circumstances leading to the arrest have not been disclosed at this time.

Officer Layne began her career with the NYPD in 2004 and earns $190,000 annually.

In 2015, her actions of unlawful arrest ended with a $43,501 settlement for the plaintiff in a lawsuit filed against the city for her actions.

On February 23, 2013 at 6:05 pm, plaintiff was lawfully present outside in the vicinity of 35-36 76 Street in Queens County . At that time the defendant officers approached four individuals , including plaintiff, and placed them all under arrest. Plaintiff did not commit any crime or violation and defendants didn’t have probable cause . Plaintiff was charged with several charges related to Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance , defendants filled out false reports. Plaintiff was held until April 6, 2013. Charges were dropped October 3.
