One Dead After Car Crashes Into Delaware Canal

DELAWARE CITY, DE – The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a tragic incident where a single-vehicle crash into the C & D Canal resulted in the death of a man last night.

The accident happened on Sunday, February 11, 2024, around 11:45 p.m. A red 2014 Chrysler 300, driven by a 60-year-old man from Elkton, Maryland, was traveling west on a gravel path on North Canal Road, just west of the Reedy Point Bridge. Under circumstances that are still being determined, the vehicle veered off the road, descended the rocky bank of the C & D Canal, and crashed into the water, where it became fully submerged.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
