Bronx Man Receives 15-Year Sentence for Gun Possession and Fleeing Police

Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark has announced the sentencing of Dante Anderson, a 36-year-old Bronx resident, to 15 years in prison following a conviction for gun possession and engaging in a high-speed chase with police that ended in a crash. This incident underscores the serious consequences of carrying firearms illegally and endangering public safety through reckless behavior.

Anderson was found guilty of second-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon and third-degree Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle by a jury. The conviction stems from an event on October 28, 2021, when Anderson attempted to evade police in a 2012 Range Rover on the Grand Concourse, after being spotted making an illegal lane change. His flight from law enforcement included dangerous driving and the disposal of a loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol out of the vehicle’s window, culminating in a collision with several parked cars and his subsequent arrest.

“The jury’s verdict sends a clear message about the consequences of possessing a loaded gun on the streets and the additional dangers posed by attempting to flee from police,” stated District Attorney Clark. Anderson’s actions not only demonstrated a disregard for the law but also posed a significant risk to community safety.

The sentencing took place on January 31, 2024, before Bronx Supreme Court Justice Raymond Bruce, including 15 years in prison followed by 5 years of post-release supervision, marking a significant step in the fight against gun violence and reckless endangerment in the Bronx.
