The incident took place on February 16, 2024, at around 5:34 AM. A red 2019 Kia Forte, driven by a 73-year-old woman from Newark, Delaware, was making a left turn onto Augusta Drive from the left turn lane on E. Chestnut Hill Road (State Route 4). During the turn, the Kia entered the path of a silver 2014 Chevrolet Equinox, traveling eastbound in the right-thru lane, leading to a collision where the Chevrolet hit the right side of the Kia.

The elderly driver of the Kia was rushed to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her identity is being withheld pending notification of family and relatives. The 18-year-old male driver of the Chevrolet, also from Newark, Delaware, received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries at a hospital.
