Salem, NJ – A man from Salem County has been charged with animal cruelty after authorities discovered four starving and neglected pit bulls last week. New Jersey State Police were called to a residence on Fairton-Millville Pike in Fairfield Township, Cumberland County, on February 6 following an animal complaint.

Upon investigation, troopers found the dogs in woods near the property, in a state of poor health.

The 43-year-old owner of the dogs, a resident of Pittsgrove, has been charged with a third-degree crime of animal cruelty as stated by the New Jersey State Police.

The pit bulls, now in the care of the South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter in Vineland, were found to be malnourished, underweight, and suffering from heartworm disease. The case continues to unfold as the authorities proceed with their investigation.
