International Manhunt for New Yorker Wanted for Murder in New Jersey Ends in Colombia

Englewood, NJ – Joshua Alvarado, a 29-year-old New York resident, has been arrested on multiple charges, including first-degree murder, in connection with a fatal shooting in Englewood.

On the morning of Saturday, September 30, 2023, Englewood Police responded to a 911 call at 6 Mevan Avenue, where they discovered 35-year-old Jason Hidalgo of Bronx, NY, deceased from multiple gunshot wounds. The investigation, led by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Englewood Police Department, identified Alvarado as the shooter who fled the state shortly after the incident.

Following a months-long international search, Alvarado was apprehended in Medellin, Colombia, on Saturday, February 17, 2024, thanks to a collaborative effort between the United States Marshals Service, the Colombian National Police, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, and the Englewood Police Department.
