Elkton Man Faces Charges for Drug Dealing in Newark

NEWARK, DE — The Newark Police Department announced the arrest of Michael Gordon Somers, a 40-year-old resident of Elkton, on charges related to drug dealing on East Main Street. The arrest followed a months-long investigation by the department’s Street Crimes Unit, initiated in October 2023, which observed numerous drug transactions involving Somers.

Somers was apprehended on February 23, 2024, following a traffic stop by Newark Police. A search of his vehicle led to the discovery of over 23 grams of cocaine and items indicative of drug sales.

Charged with possession with intent to deliver cocaine in a tier 2 quantity, four counts of drug dealing, possession of cocaine in a tier 2 quantity, and possession of drug paraphernalia, Somers was processed at Newark Police headquarters. He was subsequently released on his own recognizance after appearing before Justice of the Peace Court #11 via video link.
