Toms River Gas Station Held Up, Employee Assaulted

TOMS RIVER, NJ – A robbery attempt was thwarted early yesterday morning at the Speedway Gas Station on 58 Route 37 East. The Toms River Police Department reported that officers were dispatched to the scene following a hold-up alarm at approximately 3:28 AM.

Upon arrival, authorities were informed that an unidentified individual had attempted to rob the establishment. The suspect, who wore a facemask, went behind the counter in an attempt to access the safe and implied possession of a weapon by holding his waistline. When the employee tried to contact emergency services, the suspect assaulted them.

The altercation led to the employee partially unmasking the assailant, allowing surveillance cameras to capture the suspect’s face. The police are urging anyone with information about the incident to reach out to Detective Grob at 732-349-0150 extension 1319.
