Bear Man Arrested for Attempted Robbery and Stabbing at Newark IHOP

NEWARK, DE — Delaware State Police have apprehended 35-year-old Andrew Ford of Bear, Delaware, following an attempted robbery and related stabbing incident at an IHOP restaurant in Newark. The event unfolded on the evening of March 16, around 8:00 p.m., at the IHOP located at 2644 Kirkwood Highway.

According to police reports, Ford entered the restaurant masked and armed with a knife, demanding money from the cashier. When his demands were refused, Ford attempted to flee the scene but was pursued by two patrons. A confrontation ensued outside the restaurant, during which Ford slashed one of the patrons in the hand with the knife. The injured patron, a 31-year-old man, later received medical attention for his non-life-threatening injuries. Ford was ultimately restrained by the patrons and other bystanders until law enforcement arrived.

Following a brief period of medical treatment for an unrelated issue, Ford was charged and taken through the arraignment process in Justice of the Peace Court 11. He has been remanded to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution with a secured bond set at $165,000.
