Keyport Death Investigation Rule Murder-Suicide

FREEHOLD, NJ – A death investigation in Keyport last week has been officially classified as a murder-suicide by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

The bodies of Ekaterina Kalyapina, 37, and her husband Ilya Gagin, 39, were discovered in their home on Chingarora Avenue on Tuesday morning, March 19, following a wellness check initiated by the Keyport Police Department. The investigation into their deaths led to a shocking conclusion announced by Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago on Monday. Autopsies performed by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Kalyapina’s death was a homicide, while Gagin’s death was ruled a suicide.

Two small dogs found unharmed at the scene were taken into care by the MCSPCA.
