Do You Know Him? Newark Police Seeking Robbery Suspect

NEWARK, NJ — The Newark Department of Public Safety is requesting the public’s assistance in locating Derrick Efford, 28, for questioning related to a robbery investigation. The incident in question took place early on Sunday, February 11, 2024, around 5:30 a.m. on Polk Street, where a pedestrian was robbed at gunpoint by two suspects described as Hispanic males. The assailants demanded the victim to halt, subsequently stealing his wallet, which contained $500 in cash, a debit card, and other personal belongings. Furthermore, the victim’s cellphone was destroyed by the suspects before they fled the scene in a red 4-door vehicle heading towards Newark Penn Station.

Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé is urging anyone with information regarding Derrick Efford’s whereabouts to contact the Newark Police Division’s Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). The department emphasizes that all tips received through the Crime Stopper line remain confidential and could lead to a reward for information aiding the investigation.
