Springfield Man Charged with Kidnapping After Stealing Car with Child Inside

SPRINGFIELD, MA – Vadim Vorobyov, 52, of Springfield, faces multiple charges including kidnapping and child endangerment across two states, following a car theft incident that led to a wide-ranging police operation. The Massachusetts State Police announced that Vorobyov stole a car left running outside a home on Exchange Street in Chicopee at approximately 8:40 a.m., with a baby inside.

The vehicle, a Camry, was later spotted heading south on I-91 in Longmeadow. The search concluded when the car was discovered abandoned in a shopping center parking lot in Hartford County, Connecticut. In a distressing turn of events, an employee at the Rodeway Inn & Suites in East Windsor, Connecticut, reported that a car had dropped a baby off in their parking lot before hastily departing.

Authorities apprehended Vorobyov at Anytime Fitness in Windsor, Connecticut, around 10:40 a.m. The child, fortunately unharmed, was taken to a doctor for evaluation. Vorobyov now faces charges of kidnapping, child endangerment, and motor vehicle larceny in Massachusetts, in addition to similar charges in Connecticut.
