Judge Orders Release of Individuals Detained in Border Riot Clash with National Guard Troops

EL PASO, TX – In a ruling on Easter Sunday, Magistrate Judge Humberto Acosta ordered the release of individuals detained for their involvement in a riot at the Southern Border, where National Guard troops were assaulted. Judge Acosta criticized the El Paso District Attorney’s Office for its unpreparedness regarding detention hearings.

According to Judge Acosta, the decision to release the detainees on their own recognizance was due to the prosecution’s lack of readiness to proceed with the hearings.
