Toms River Cops Arrest Teen After Shooting At, Threatening Residents

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A dispute involving a handgun led to the arrest of 18-year-old Asheer Johnson from Toms River on Tuesday. Toms River Police were dispatched to Oxford Street following reports of a verbal altercation where a handgun was displayed.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:47 AM when a man arrived at a local residence, brandished a handgun, and caused damage to the property. The victim, who recognized the assailant, promptly contacted the authorities after the suspect attempted to gain entry and a gunshot was heard.

Officers arriving at the scene discovered evidence of a gunshot through the rear storm door of the home. Further investigation uncovered a bullet lodged in an interior door and the corresponding shell casing on the property.

A report from a nearby resident on Irving Place described a similar threat by an individual matching the suspect’s description. Police located Johnson at his residence, arresting him without further incident and seizing an unregistered firearm.
