Pennsylvania Woman Sentenced to 40-80 Years for Killing Toddler

BEDFORD COUNTY, PA – Chelsea R. Cooley has been sentenced to 40 to 80 years in prison for the murder of 3-year-old Travis Young Jr., who died after Cooley stuffed baby wipes down his throat. The tragic incident occurred on May 28, 2022, in Bedford County, leading to Cooley’s guilty plea on charges of third-degree murder, strangulation, and endangering the welfare of a child.

The 33-year-old was responsible for watching Travis, her boyfriend’s son, among other children, at their residence when the crime took place.

The Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office reported that a neighbor heard a woman screaming and telling someone to “shut up” at the time Travis was harmed. Cooley, who later captured a photo of the visibly harmed and unconscious boy at 8:41 p.m., delayed calling emergency services until 9:07 p.m. and showed reluctance to perform life-saving measures as instructed by the 911 dispatcher.
