16-Year-Old On Scooter Injured, One Dead After Man Loses Control Near Newark

NEWARK, DE – Delaware State Police are calling for witnesses to a fatal scooter accident that occurred near Newark.

The incident took place on Wednesday night at approximately 9:45 p.m. on Salem Church Road north of Reybold Road. A Phantom Commuter electric scooter, operated by a 32-year-old Newark man, was traveling southbound when it veered into the northbound lane and collided with a northbound Nissan Altima.

The scooter’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released his name, pending family notification.

The driver of the Nissan, a 16-year-old female from Newark, was unharmed in the incident. Delaware State Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash and urge any witnesses to come forward.
