MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, and Florham Park Police Chief Joseph Orlando have announced the sentencing of Jayshawn E. Moore, age 22, of Jersey City, for crimes committed at Fairleigh Dickinson University.

On Thursday, Judge Stephen J. Taylor of the New Jersey Superior Court sentenced Moore to 15 years in state prison, with a minimum of nearly 13 years to be served before eligibility for parole under the No Early Release Act. This follows Moore’s guilty plea on October 25, 2023, to charges of first-degree kidnapping and first-degree aggravated sexual assault.

The incident, which took place on April 9, 2023, involved Moore, who is not a student at the university, forcibly taking a known adult female into a dormitory room where he threatened and assaulted her. Moore, who was reportedly armed with a knife during the assault, was arrested the following day in Elizabeth. He has been ordered to register under Megan’s Law and is subject to lifetime parole supervision and a no-contact order with the victim.
